About Thermo Stability Profiling Our 4000 series brake rotors can handle extreme applications thanks to Thermo Stability Profiling or TSP. This unique process provides greater thermal stability than standard street discs. TSP enhances the microstructure of the disc rotor for performance applications. Greater thermal stability allows your discs to take more heat, making them more stable under heavy braking for longer. TSP also means improved brake pad and disc rotor life, and delayed brake fade. About Thermo Graphic Paint Monitoring ![]() 4000 series rotors also incorporate Thermo-Graphic heat paint marking which change color at specific temperature thresholds.

About Kangaroo Paw Design ![]() Our Kangaroo Paw delivers significantly improved braking performance under all conditions to make you safer than ever before. The innovative Kangaroo Paw design runs cooler, is stronger, and outperforms traditional straight vane disc brake rotors. So what makes it work so well? To answer this, let’s look at a car’s braking system. This system is critical in terms of vehicle safety and performance. Being able to stop reliably, time after time, under heavy braking conditions can mean life or death. Every time the brakes are used massive pressure is built up through the braking system. The force your foot applies at the brake pedal is multiplied many times at the disc rotors, creating friction and extreme heat. The extreme heat can cause disc rotors to warp, distort and in some cases fail. Traditionally, heat is removed as air flows through the rotor passing between straight ‘cooling vanes’. However, the straight vane design does not provide the ideal conditions for heat to be dissipated and tends to allow an unwanted ballooning effect. Kangaroo Paw disc rotors will quickly remove the heat, cool the discs, and return to optimal operating temperatures ready for the next braking application – without this ballooning. The Kangaroo Paw features 144 precisely positioned diamond and tear-drop pillars. The pillars create greater strength, reliability, and a more efficient cooling system. Greater surface area means more rapid heat dissipation. Cool air flows in from the center of the disc, while hot air is forced to the outside of the disc - regardless of rotational direction. The pillars provide greater strength across the disc rotor and reduce the tendency for disc distortion. More efficient cooling improves brake pad and disc rotor life, and helps reduce brake fade. That’s why the Kangaroo Paw system is so effective. Available across a range of products for most popular vehicles, it’s the greatest advance in brake rotor design for decades – guaranteed! Are Cross Drilled and Slotted Rotors hard on Brake Pads? A more powerful engine uses more fuel, and it stands to reason that if brakes do more work, or generate more energy, they must suffer more wear. In the original planning stage we predicted a 10 per cent increase in pad wear. After all, the holes and slots would be abrasive on the pads and, with less metal-to-pad friction area, we expected more rotor wear too. Yet the on-road results have surprised us. In normal usage, pad wear is generally no greater, and rotor wear is sometimes extended. This is three times the company norm, and has been achieved without any additional pad wear (the pads continue to be changed at the normal 25,000km intervals). The reason for the improvement relates to the shaving effect of the slots, which ensure improved contact between pad and rotors, plus the lower running temperatures. Should high-mileage Street Series rotors require machining, this must be performed on a modern, high-speed, low-feed brake lathe. The correct procedure is for the technician to machine from the hub to the outer edge, taking 0.25mm (.001’) in each pass. A word of caution: machine in the one direction only: when feeding back, the technician should withdraw the tools and recommence from the hub to avoid tip damage and repeat until required finish is achieved. Cross-drilling and slotting remove not only weight but also friction surface (or ‘swept’ area). The figures are relatively small and the enhanced performance shows that the reduction in swept area is more than made up for by the improved ventilation that cross-drilling and slotting achieves. For the record, the four disc rotors on a typical big sedan have a total swept area of 351.5cm2. The cross-drilling on a Gold rotor removes 22.9cm2, while the slots take away another 5.4cm2. That’s a total of 28.3cm2, or 8.1 per cent of the surface area.

Carbotech™ Bobcat 1521™ The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser, and has won multiple SCCA Solo 2 and Prosolo National Championships. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. Bobcat 1521™ compound has also been found to extend the life of your rotors 2-3 times. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use. Carbotech™ AX6™ (1106™) The AX6™ takes the place of the Panther Plus™ compound that was so successful. AX6™ was specifically engineered for Autocross applications. A high torque brake compound delivering reliable and consistent performance over a very wide operating temperature range (50°F to 1150°F +). Advanced compound matrix provides an excellent initial “bite”, high coefficient of friction, and very progressive brake modulation and release characteristics. AX6™ offers high fade resistance, rotor friendliness at all temperatures, excellent cold stopping power, and non corrosive dust. As a result, AX6™ is an excellent choice for Autocross & AX6™ has gained tremendous popularity with SCCA Prosolo/Solo2 competitors for its fantastic bite, release & modulation. Many drivers use the AX6™ for street driving as well, even though Carbotech doesn’t recommend street driving with AX6™ due to possible elevated levels of dust and noise. AX6™ is NOT a race compound, and should not be used as such. AX6™ shouldn’t be used by any intermediate or advanced track day drivers, and should not be used with “R” compound tires (racing tires).
Carbotech XP Series A high torque brake compound with a wide operating temperature range (200°F-1350°F+). Carbotech XP series features our racing compounds with outstanding initial bite at race temperatures, high coefficient of friction, excellent modulation and release characteristics. Extremely high fade resistance, very rotor friendly with 100% non-corrosive dust. Excellent for novice, intermediate and advanced track day (HPDE) use with any tire, and can still be driven safely to and from the track. Carbotech does NOT recommended XP Series as a daily driven street pad due to elevated levels of dust and noise. This series can also be a great rear brake pad for almost any race car and can be suitable on the front & rear of most open wheel and sports racers.
